PULPED!

Besides being the home of such characters as James Sprecken and Lucifer Fawkes, Modern Pulp Comics is also the home of Pulped! comics and stories. Simply put, Pulped! is the section of MPC that spotlights creations outside of the established MP Universe. Each creation is creator-owned by friends of MPC. Some are series and some just stand-alone stories, but they are all great!

Mr. Jigsaw

How It All Began

As the Man of a Thousand Parts, he has the unique ability to dismember every single part of his anatomy and then mentally control them. Not exactly the typical power of a longjohn-wearing dogooder, but Jiggy's greatest asset is his loving heart.

Doctor Satan

Checkmate In Red

In the early 1930s. the editor of Weird Tales magazine, Farnsworth Wright, decided it was time to bring a recurring series into the fold. Other pulp titles of the time were competing against Weird Tales with colorful characters that kept resurfacing much to the enjoyment of the readership. Wright thought such an over-the-top figure might appeal to Weird Tales readers and commissioned veteran writer, Paul Ernst, to create such a persona.

Following the example of such garish monthlies as THE OCTOPUS, DR. YEN SIN and THE MYSTERIOUS FU FANG, Ernst chose to make his principle the villain. He invented Doctor Satan, a mad criminal genius who used both science and magic in his outlandish crimes. He was challenged by criminologist, Ascott Keane, who also possessed the same talents.

CHECKMATE IN RED is a graphic adaptation of the very first Doctor Satan adventure as it appeared in the August 1935 issue.
