This March at Emerald City ComiCon, the wait is finally over! After 4 long years, the final issue of Sprecken: Kalabus Rex, the mini-series focusing on the origin of James Sprecken (AKA Mr. Midnight), will be done and ready for purchase at the Rorschach Entertainment/Micro Brew Comics booth.
This issue is the culmination of MANY years of works, starting all the way back to 2001 or so, when I first came up with the story behind the masked Mystery Man from the past that was vaulted to the future. This issue also marks an important change in the artist for the book, as well.
The artist for the first three issues was a very talented man named Walther Taborda. Due to a major conflict with his schedule, Walther was unable to continue drawing the book. At first, I was more than willing to wait for his schedule to clear up, but once a year had passed, it became clear to both of us that he was not going to be able to finish the series. However, Walther was able to find the perfect replacement, an artist that could mimic his style and keep the look of the book the same as his. That artist was Pedro Pablo.
Pedro was one of the best artists that I have ever worked with, on any project. He knocked out the issue in no time flat, maintaining the overall quality and feel set by his friend and mentor Walther.
However, it is with a sad heart that I must announce that Pedro passed away about 6 months after completing the issue. He never got to see this issue come out, nor see the completion of such a longtime project.
This issue will be dedicated to Pedro Pablo.
