Although things have been very QUIET over at Modern Pulp (& Micro Brew Comics), we are continuing to make progress on our upcoming titles. However, just not as much progress as we were hoping to make. My work with the Emerald City Comicon and Jet City Comic Show takes more time than I initially figured.

With this in mind, we will be holding off the launch of the new Dallas McCoy series until it can be debuted at the 2011 Emerald City Comicon. Although we could get the first issue out in time for the Jet City Comic Show, we would not have enough issues “in the can” so that we could go bi-monthly.

For now, here’s a sneak peek of the first three pages of Dallas McCoy #1…

One of those artists was Fabio Mori, the new Lucifer Fawkes artist. Although we passed on him for Dallas (in order to secretly recruit him for Lucifer Fawkes… Bwah Ha Ha!), his pinup of Dallas was just too cool not to post…

During our recent artist search (to replace Sidney Lima on the new ongoing Dallas McCoy series), one of the top contenders for the gig was Fabio Mori, an Italian artist. Although his work wasn’t what we wanted for the new Dallas book, his stuff really struck me as being perfect for Lucifer Fawkes.

As it so happened, I had been playing around with a new story for Lucifer Fawkes. With a little bit of reworking, I could easily turn it into a classic serial of short episodes as opposed to full issues. This way, I could add it to a new “anthology” I have been working on — more on this later!

The timing seemed to be perfect. A new story congeals in my brain and a new artist falls into my lap (figuratively speaking, of course). Shortly after recruiting him for the new project, Fabio whipped up this awesome sketch of Lucifer Fawkes… which gives me some artwork to go along with an announcement of the new project (even though it’s far in advance).

So, without further ado…

Lucifer Fawkes returns next year!

Lucifer Fawkes returns in a brand new serial called Red Moon Rising, written by Brian Meredith and drawn by Fabio Mori. Expect the first installment in the first issue of an as-yet-unannounced anthology, debuting at the 9th Annual Emerald City Comicon in March of 2011!

Dallas McCoy launches as a new ongoing series this September!

Picking up where the original one-shot and the recent zero issue left off, Dallas McCoy continues the tale of hard-boiled bodyguard Dallas McCoy and her unwanted charge, the ever popular and perky pop star Celeste Robbins!

Written by series writer Amy Riddle, Dallas McCoy will feature the art chores of the talented Ron McCain. Ron has worked for several of the comic book companies over the years, most notably on several titles such as Black Lightning, Deathstroke, and Batman over at DC Comics. The first set of covers for the series are by the fantastically talented Edward Pun.

As with the recent Prelude issue, Dallas McCoy will be published as a Modern Pulp Comic by Rorschach Entertainment. The first issue will be available at the upcoming Jet City Comic Show on September 25th, 2010.

Next weekend, we are taking our show on the road and hitting up the Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland, Or. This will be my first time at this particular show, but Amy Riddle has been there once before with our co-publisher, Rorschach Entertainment. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the show over the last few years, and I am pretty excited to see it firsthand.

We (Amy Riddle, Mackenzie Meredith, and I) will be set up as Micro Brew Comics, but it will actually be a joint Micro Brew/Modern Pulp presence. Mackenzie will be there promoting and pimping The Adventures of Doctor Zombie, while Amy Riddle will be doing the same for the new prelude issue of Dallas McCoy. I’ll be covering the stuff in the middle, like the Sprecken miniseries and the Steve Lawlis books, as well as promoting my new comic book convention, Jet City Comic Show.

If you are in the Portland area next weekend (April 24th & 25th), please swing by the Stumptown Comics Fest and say hi!

-Brian M.
